I'm imagining that you are an art enthusiast just as myself and would like to learn more about the fascinating history behind the greats, how everything is connected and how the art we see today came to be.
Start point
This is where I want to help you with this first steps towards this new world. Learning can be a different experience to each person, so I will be giving different methods and places to learn from.
1. YouTube
First of all I would recommend YouTube, it´s short, direct and helpful. Goes straight to the point and you can decide if you would like to compromise yourself with an actual course or the videos are all the knowledge you need.
This is a collection with 20 very short videos about each period. It´s the perfect 101 Introduction to the theme.
This is also a collection but the videos are longer and there are more videos, gets more in depth into the theme. So if you watched the first one and is thinking something like }Ugh this is not enoght, I want more" like the addict we all are, this is step 2.
Now, with your knowledge from the video collections you don´t want to stop there, you know there is more for you to learn and you want it. No worries, I got you. This is the link to the National Gallery YouTube Channel, this means that you can learn specifically what you want, from artists to specific painting or sculptures.
2. Paid Courses
I am going to recommend two specific courses that I am saving a bit of money to do it myself and I would like to share my finding with you.
- https://artforintrovert.com/#Courses - The Art for Introvert plataform gather a bunch of courses to choose from, I am certain you´ll be interested in one. You can find a professionalization course to become an Art Historian or just watch the regular couses for a fee (they offer certificates, unlimited access and additional materials)
- https://www.sothebysinstitute.com/course-catalogue/?location=online - The Sotheby´s Institue of Art has a page where you can search all of their courses (you need to check the dates, the courses change overtime) it´s a great way yo go deeper into the subject.
3. Books
Ok, so now that means that maybe you watched the videos and want a book to deepen you knowledge or you simply do not like videos and prefer much more a good read, and I am here for you. Here is a list of 5 books you may find very interesting and will definitely help you to learn more about Art History.
